MATCH PREVIEW | Broncos and Rhinos meet for first time in Women's Challenge Cup

Sunday afternoon sees Leeds Rhinos Women face a new opponent as London Broncos travel to West Park to take on the Rhinos in the final game of the Betfred Challenge Cup group stages, kick off 2pm.

Victory over Leigh a fortnight ago has put Lois Forsell's side in a strong position to reach the knockout stages for an eighth consecutive Cup campaign, and a win this weekend would confirm a spot in the quarter finals as winners of group B. They face the Broncos in the first competitive meeting between the two sides in history in either the league or cup, as London becomes the 13th different team the Rhinos have faced in the Cup since the club's inaugural season in 2018.

Here's your match preview:

Opposition

Like the Rhinos, London Broncos enter the final group match of this year's Cup competition in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds as Colin Baker's side claimed a win last weekend.

Two tries from Charlotte D'Halluin and Becky Smart helped the Broncos overcome Super League side Leigh Leopards in a 20-8 win on Sunday as they look to make consecutive quarter-final appearances in two years. First joining the Cup competitions three years ago in 2023, London managed two total wins in their first two group campaigns before making it to the final eight for the first time in 2025 with a victory over Barrow away from home. The 22-14 result pushed the Broncos into a quarter-final clash against that year's eventual Cup Finalists St Helens - losing 78-0 against the eight-time Champions - and in 2026, they take on another team with extensive Cup Final experience, Leeds, as a potential home quarter-final is on the line for both sides.

Away from the Challenge Cup competition, the Broncos have developed into one of the rising Women's programmes over recent years as they have combined their Cup experience with a rise through the league rankings. First established in 2021, London joined Cardiff Demons in setting the standard in the Southern Conferences as the pair met in back-to-back Championship South Grand Finals in 2023 and 2024 - the Broncos claiming wins in both finales. The quality of both clubs saw them earn promotion to an expanded National Championship tier for 2025 where they both dominated to finish first and third; separated by Featherstone Rovers. In ten games, London topped the table with only one loss during the regular season but after beating Salford for a place in the promotion final, they couldn't hold off Featherstone Rovers as tries from Sian McLaughlin and current Rhino Nicole Kennedy came in a 20-10 defeat.

Raring to go again in 2026, Baker's side open their campaign against Castleford in a fortnight hoping that their Cup form can inspire another positive season ahead.
